Where does the time go? seriously?

I'm not even going to apologize for my absence or promise to become a regular blogger again, mainly because I am lazy and disappointed in myself. I am disappointed because so many amazing things have happened since I wrote last and my laziness got in the way of sharing them. I'm going to do a quick recap of the high points just so I can feel a little better and then maybe start blogging again (that was not a promise). The main reason I finally got around to doing this again is because Jimmy just asked me to go skydiving with him and his med school peeps and I want to try to get some readers back before that time comes so I can share my extreme range of emotions I have about it. a few words that come to mind are terror, horror and splat. but we will get to that later.

sigh here we go..

since I wrote last:

My great-grandma turned 89

Jimmy became a college graduate.

I made a bag.

Jimmy's little brother Josh graduated high school and joined me at A&M and joined the corps.

I got to spend my third summer being Matthew and Leah's "nanny"

I went on a Caribbean cruise with Jimmy's extended family and hundreds of other crazy Cajuns. (we left out of New Orleans)

had one last hangout before med and dental school started and the real world hit.

Jimmy became a second a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force

went to Ranger's games.

(please notice the lady behind us posing for the picture)
Jimmy got his white coat and started med school at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston

My brother Austin transferred to Texas State.
(no pictures of him in State stuff yet)

had the BEST weekend.. I got my Fightin' Texas Aggie Ring. WHOOP!! had my second annual 21st birthday (I refuse to acknowledge that I am 22. that's practically 100)  and tailgated with the best family and friends.

holy cow. are you still with me? I'm sorry that was sooooo long but once I started there was no turning back.

so there you have it.. everything you have missed in the past 5 months. its really good to be back and I can't wait to catch up on what everyone else in the blog world has been doing.

Growing up

On a study break at the library today I came across this picture on we ♥ it

I wouldn't say my childhood was wasted, it was awesome actually. but I definitely spent most of my time and energy trying to be "grown up".

This is something I think about a lot, usually when Jimmy and I are dancing our way through the grocery store aisles, or when I challenge someone to race to the car in the parking lot. these are things I wouldn't have been caught dead doing when I was younger, how immature.

It wasn't hard for me to act older as a kid, because I looked older. I have been the height I am now (5'6) since around 3rd grade. In the pictures of my 5th grade graduation I am at least 2 feet taller than my teacher. You know the Michael Jackson song, act your age not your shoe size? a little known fact about me is that, at age 10, these two numbers were the same. yes, I know, my feet are huge.

I went to daycare until I was too old to go, and had an unhealthy obsession with being like the teachers who worked there. Then, when I was 16, I became one. and it wasn't as cool as I had anticipated. Its so weird when I get facebook friend requests from kids who went to the daycare.
I am not old enough for this!

The other day some elementary schools were on a field trip on campus and while I was walking to class a little girl pointed at me and said excitedly "shes in college"  It was the cutest, and most depressing thing ever. It feels like yesterday when I was her age, dying to be this age.

Now that I'm here, I'm fighting growing up at every turn. I was probably the only person I know who wasn't excited about turning 21. and the only daughter who doesn't like hearing her parents call her an "adult".

This summer on a visit with Grammie in Connecticut my 10 year old cousin Kate introduced us to the game "man hunt" which is essentially just hide and seek outside, at night. So there we were, a bunch of "adults" (19-21) playing hide and seek in the woods. Grammie and mom got on to us for running around like "little kids" but it was a blast!

I have always been the "mature" one. and now, I'm making up for lost time, I am going to have fun acting like a kid. even if I am finally grown up.

*side note: daycare is where I met Jimmy. He was my first crush, if you don't count Garth Brooks. my mom just found a picture of us at our pre-k graduation. I'll save the details of how he went from first crush to main squeeze for another time, its back to the books I go. adios kiddos

Nannyhood

Being with the kids for the past two summers has really prepared me for (and deterred me from) motherhood. I'm not talking about the screaming baby, shitty diaper motherhood, no one is ever prepared for that. I'm talking about the elementary stage. I've done some pretty impressive things with the kids this summer. Some of which include, homemade board games, puppet theater, marble jar for good behavior, tons of cooking & crafts.

Some days the kids make me want to run screaming but when they tell me how much fun they're having its totally worth it! I can't believe summer is almost over.

*I would like to note that recipes pictured above are all made from scratch.

Graduation

So as you know I've been "on the fence" about my next move toward a career, and it is settled. I just took a personality/career test and it said I should be a JOURNALIST!! I mean seriously, how perfect is that. exactly what I was thinking about doing. I am going to email someone in A&M's journalism department and see what they can tell me.

Today was Matthew's kindergarten graduation. Jimmy came with me to the ceremony. Which means Matthew didn't care one bit that I was there. It is amazing what a year of school can do for a kid. Last summer I couldn't get him to be in the same room with a book. Now, he is reading like a pro, and he wants to read. I love it. And the kid is a math genius. Unlike me. Maybe he can help me when my summer classes start.

Leah had her first dance class today, it was at one of those cheer gyms. Matthew and I sat in the lobby for an hour and it was very entertaining. Some of the moms in this place were hilarious. Competing and flaunting, it was like watching an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras. awesome people-watching session.

Change

I'm on my new Samsung netbook!! My p.o.s. Sony Viao can't be unplugged or it dies, so when I get back to school I'll be using it as a desktop and this will be my lap top.

So, yesterday I was talking to my Mom about what I'm going to do with my life. I'm having second thoughts about a career working with children. I love kids, and kids love me, but I'm not so sure I want to work with them anymore. Its like I used to play teacher when I was younger and got it in my head that's what I wanted to do and just stuck with it. It think I want to write. And to top it off, my fortune last night said "now is a great time to try something new" That's gotta be some kind of sign.

Its scary to think about changing my plans, but I guess now is the time to do it. I have always enjoyed writing, and I'm pretty good at it. My Mom has always said I should be a writer. And my Grammie has been reading my blog and says I "have a way with words". She attributes that to the stories she used to tell us. She used to make up the craziest stories, Gram if you're reading this.. write down some of the stories you can remember, I would love to have them.

I'm going to buy a lottery ticket today. Don't worry, I'll still blog when I'm a millionaire.

It’s off to work I go...

I started back at my nanny job today. I missed those little rugrats! Its unbelievable how fast kids change. I was with them in December and since then they have grown into two huge, totally different kids. I barley recognized them when I picked them up today. After a snack we practiced spelling words and worked on a book report about Michael Jackson (Leah is his "number one fan"). Last summer Matthew said to Leah "you really need to stop with the Michael Jackson stuff, you're like possessed with him" get it? he meant to say obsessed. he is hilarious. Once he said, "check out the kajuzie in mom's bathtub" so cute. Anyway, after homework we played basketball, then tumble, and uno spin, and then watched an hour of iCarly. I have the absolute best job in the world.

P90X was awesome today, it was cardio and it kicked my ass. But it was over before I realized I was working out. I was so sore from yesterday! I'm talking the deep sore that makes sneezing the hardest thing you've ever done. I can already tell that Tony and I are going to have a love/hate relationship. but as he says I just have to "do my best and forget the rest".
