the not so itsy-bitsy spider

So, I'm cleaning my room, you know, minding my own business and what do I see? a freaking tarantula in my bathtub! and of course Jimmy left 2 minutes before, and wouldn't answer his phone.

I really, really hate bugs!! But I don't usually do the typical girly freak-out. This time, however, it was completely necessary. I could have put a saddle on this thing and ridden it around the apartment. Brooke came downstairs, to join in on the freaking-out, she was more scared then I was.

Finally Jimmy answered and came back over! I know, I know, he's the best. He killed it, which I was surprised about. Brooke and I were sure he was going to try to save it and release it back into the wild. But thankfully he squashed and flushed it. I have a rule about this sort of thing: If you're outside in nature you can't kill bugs, but as soon as it comes inside, its fair game. And this elephant, masquerading as a spider, was an easy target.

So now I'm sitting here, alone. And I just know his giant spider friends are going to come take revenge on me. I'm so freaked out I can't even get off my bed to finish cleaning. If I'm dead tomorrow morning, tell them to check my throat, it will be filled with spider eggs.

*Side note about dealing with bugs in the home: Hair spray works really well at making sure a bug doesn't move while you're waiting for someone to come kill it. This is especially true for daddy long legs'. Those skinny legs don't stand a chance against the stickiness of hairspray.

Bad day

Today was just not the day.. for anyone.

I woke up this morning in an unexplained bad mood, I should have taken it as a sign and just stayed in bed. I almost killed someone trying to register for summer classes at Richland. Its more of a pain in the ass to register there than at A&M. Which I also had to do today. I basically got none of the classes I want or need. whatever.

Then my mom called me in class to tell me that my brother, Austin, and his girlfriend
Beth,(my future roomie) got in a wreck. What she literally said was "Austin's front end got taken out, and Beth's car is probably totaled" huh? did they run into each other? Nope. It happened in the parking lot at Blinn. Some guy (going way to fast for a parking lot) managed to wreck FIVE cars!! It was quite the ordeal. Here's what went down.. He was hauling ass and pulled out in front of a car.. that car hit him.. he then popped the curb and accelerated, yes, accelerated, into a row of parked cars. Two of which were Austin's hummer and Beth's bug ("beetle bop yellow" for any Lee's reading). They were sitting in Austin's car. Good thing because if Beth had been in her car, or between them it would have been bad. Jimmy and I, and Beth's brother Andy were good siblings and went to save the day. We spent two hours up there. What a mess. Thankfully, everyone was okay. Now Austin has my car till his is fixed, Jimmy will be stuck with me until then.

Here are some pictures of the debacle..

Busy, Busy Bee

I've been crazy busy the past few days. Which usually happens when my friend Ankita comes into town.

On Thursday my roommate Brooke, Ankita and I went to Houston for a little shopping. Brooke is going to NY for an internship on Wall Street this summer so naturally she needs an entirely new wardrobe. Our "little" shopping trip turned into an all out shopping spree. There was money flying everywhere, clothes were being yanked off the racks and thrown into bags, we were yelling and running, people were starting to stare. exaggeration you say? nonsense. My cousin was in Houston with friends so we met them for lunch. I really enjoyed seeing her! After lunch we went to 2 different malls downtown and then to a cupcake place for a snack. On the way home we stopped at an outlet mall.. that is when the madness began. There were deals that would make your head spin. Over all it was a successful day, we literally shopped until we dropped. All three of us slept on the drive home. It was a miracle we made it back.

Friday after class I took a 3 hour nap!! It was amazing. Then Jimmy, Mihir, Ankita and I went to On the Border for dinner. Its like a tradition when Ankita comes. She is a vegetarian so there is usually only a few things she can order, but there was a new thing on the menu that she tried. It was big deal. After dinner my friend Brooke and her boyfriend Ryan came over to Jimmy's apartment for game night. There should be some kind of law against drinking and playing Taboo. Things got a little heated to say the least. who am I kidding.. I get so intense ANY time I play games. anyway.. girls DOMINATED and a very valuable lesson was learned that night..

girls rule, and boys drool.

Today Jimmy and I, and Brooke and Ryan had a busy day. Jimmy's apartment complex put on a crawfish boil/pool party. And the cajun "coonass" in Jimmy can't pass up crawfish. We got like 10 shirts, each. What will we do with all of these shirts you ask?! One for everyday of the week, and some to sleep in. duh After lunch we went to Jubliee. It was supposed to be like a give back to the community/ take what you need, free garage sale type thing, with food and music & hanging out. But by the time we got there (over an hour before it was supposed to end) everything was being packed up. Oh well, I got rid of the bag of clothes that had been sitting in my room for over a month, and maybe helped someone in need. After that we went to the lake. It was a BEAUTIFUL day to be outside. The boys went mountain bike riding in the trails and Brooke and I walked & talked and let Oliver run around. We had a late lunch by the water at a place that has the best hamburger in the history of the world! When we left I came home and took another amazing nap. I think tonight we're going to have a game night rematch. The boys can't stand that they lost, and not just lost by a few, got completely annihilated by girls. I wonder how upset they are going to be when it happens again.

oh and.. my TOMS are finished and look great!! Jimmy sewed some fabric on them for me. I know its pitiful that I can't sew, stitch, or knit and my boyfriend can. In my defense, he is good at everything.

Softly Call the Muster..

"Muster is one of the most sacred and time-honored traditions of Texas A&M. Aggies set aside the day of April 21st each year to pay homage to their classmates and alma mater. This day is a time to remember our days at A&M, honor those Aggies that are no longer with us, and enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie we have as members of this school. There are over 300 Aggie Musters held worldwide each year, with the largest ceremony being the one current students host in Aggieland. During the Roll Call for the Absent, the names of the students being honored are read and families and friends will answer "here" and light a candle to signify that even though they are not with us in person, they are always a part of the Aggie Spirit."

It is traditions like this that make me proud to be an Aggie.

TOMS TOMS TOMS

Today was a beautiful day. Not only was the weather perfect but I saw Reveille on the way to lab. And my new TOMS came in today!! For those of you who don't know what TOMS is all about here is a video

I have a silver sparkly pair of TOMS that I love, but I also have my dad's smelly-feet gene so it was time for a new pair. I got a plain white pair and I'm going to "style my sole" and decorate them myself. Seeing as how I lack even an ounce of creativity this could end up in disaster.

I had to bribe Jimmy with chicken express to come help me pick out the paints and fabrics for my shoes. how sweet huh?

Oh and in case you were curious.. I dissected a pig heart today in lab. & found out my blood pressure is normal -110/73. Which is surprising seeing as how I haven't worked out in.. well lets just way too long. sigh

Hello World

So after stumbling across a stranger's hilarious blog I became inspired to start my own.

I'm thinkin maybe I need a blogging gimmick.. like Julie and Julia. Maybe they'll turn it into a book or a play. Or a movie! the possibilities are endless. Or not.

For now I think I'll just blog about my everyday. Someone is bound to find it entertaining.

So brace yourselves for a lot of anecdotes about my puggle puppy, Oliver, my Aggie education (whoop), and my brainy boyfriend, Jimmy.

I refuse to go to sleep because it means I have to wake up and go to biology lab. We have been dissecting things for the past 3 weeks. gag. there's nothing like the smell of formaldehyde in the morning. ha
