Nannyhood

Being with the kids for the past two summers has really prepared me for (and deterred me from) motherhood. I'm not talking about the screaming baby, shitty diaper motherhood, no one is ever prepared for that. I'm talking about the elementary stage. I've done some pretty impressive things with the kids this summer. Some of which include, homemade board games, puppet theater, marble jar for good behavior, tons of cooking & crafts.

Some days the kids make me want to run screaming but when they tell me how much fun they're having its totally worth it! I can't believe summer is almost over.

*I would like to note that recipes pictured above are all made from scratch.

I'm back

I've been getting e-mails and facebook messages requesting, nay demanding, updates. So here you are, I am still alive. barely. I have been working like 40+ hours a week, just finished my calculus class, and just started my second summer semester. All of this plus freaking out about what I'm going to do with my life, plus facing the reality of growing up -I've been having a small quarter life crisis. sigh

I don't really have anything good to write about, plus I'm exhausted so I'm going to leave this as an I'm still here-and plan on picking this back up-update post. I'll have something to write about tomorrow. maybe.

oh and shout out to one (of like 3) of my faithful readers, Ankita for acing her DAT (test for dentistry school) today. I'm proud of you..time to party!

Here Everything's Better

The only negative about being home is that it lacks an H.E.B. If you have an H.E.B. near you, count your blessings. The closest one to me is 40 miles away. You really don't know what you've got till its gone. I'm barely surviving without homemade tortillas. And H.E.B is the only store that carries the pizza dough I use. Those of you who have never shopped at an H.E.B can't appreciate the subtle touches that make it the most amazing grocery store, anywhere, ever. And just to throw salt on the wound. I have to do my grocery shopping at wal-mart when I'm home. shoot me. When you leave H.E.B. you feel like you've just spent hours at the spa. Wal-mart, on the other hand, is like getting teeth pulled. So, I wrote to H.E.B, begging them to build a store near me. They said they're looking in to it. If enough of us ask for it I'm sure it'll happen. So come on people, help bring H.E.B. to Garland. I need this! I better start campaigning.

Couch-to-5k

I have closed the short chapter in my life that was p90x. I did it for a week, then skipped a week, then did it for another week. During the second time around I lost 6 pounds. But I think that had a lot more to do with stuffing my face less, than with the workouts. p90x is awesome if you want to get super ripped and have huge bulging muscles. But that's not what I'm looking for. I just want to be in shape again.

Despite my years of sports, I have never liked running. And then you have those people who can't go a day without a run. They make me sick. And I want so desperately to be one of them. So I am trading p90x in for couch-to-5k. And hopefully I'll magically become one of those obsessive runners. Mom got me a membership to her gym. I can't even imagine my fat ass running in the 100 degree heat every day. I'm still going to do a few workouts from p90x on on the days when I don't go to the gym.

So that's what I'm doing, training to run a 5k. AND in October I'm doing a muddy buddy run with Jimmy and his family. Believe it or not, I'm super excited about doing this..

We said good-bye to our favorite slutty, southern belle today. Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux on Golden Girls died this morning.

Like most people, I have been in love with the Golden Girls from the first time I watched it. There is nothing better than a Golden Girls marathon, thank you We Tv.

Rest in Peace Rue- you will be missed

Graduation

So as you know I've been "on the fence" about my next move toward a career, and it is settled. I just took a personality/career test and it said I should be a JOURNALIST!! I mean seriously, how perfect is that. exactly what I was thinking about doing. I am going to email someone in A&M's journalism department and see what they can tell me.

Today was Matthew's kindergarten graduation. Jimmy came with me to the ceremony. Which means Matthew didn't care one bit that I was there. It is amazing what a year of school can do for a kid. Last summer I couldn't get him to be in the same room with a book. Now, he is reading like a pro, and he wants to read. I love it. And the kid is a math genius. Unlike me. Maybe he can help me when my summer classes start.

Leah had her first dance class today, it was at one of those cheer gyms. Matthew and I sat in the lobby for an hour and it was very entertaining. Some of the moms in this place were hilarious. Competing and flaunting, it was like watching an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras. awesome people-watching session.

Change

I'm on my new Samsung netbook!! My p.o.s. Sony Viao can't be unplugged or it dies, so when I get back to school I'll be using it as a desktop and this will be my lap top.

So, yesterday I was talking to my Mom about what I'm going to do with my life. I'm having second thoughts about a career working with children. I love kids, and kids love me, but I'm not so sure I want to work with them anymore. Its like I used to play teacher when I was younger and got it in my head that's what I wanted to do and just stuck with it. It think I want to write. And to top it off, my fortune last night said "now is a great time to try something new" That's gotta be some kind of sign.

Its scary to think about changing my plans, but I guess now is the time to do it. I have always enjoyed writing, and I'm pretty good at it. My Mom has always said I should be a writer. And my Grammie has been reading my blog and says I "have a way with words". She attributes that to the stories she used to tell us. She used to make up the craziest stories, Gram if you're reading this.. write down some of the stories you can remember, I would love to have them.

I'm going to buy a lottery ticket today. Don't worry, I'll still blog when I'm a millionaire.

Blanket Forts

If you've never built a blanket fort, you haven't lived. I wish I was five again when throwing some blankets over the couch turned the living room into some magical place. My kids are going to have the coolest, most extreme blanket forts around.

Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday

If anyone is thinking about taking classes from Richland, shoot yourself in the foot instead. It will be a lot less painful. After I waited for over an hour to see an adviser today, some girl came out and told me that the math class that I took at Texas A&M University doesn't meet the requirements to take a math class at Richland community college. And when I told her I wanted to talk to the adviser she said I could go to the back of the line and wait again. yeah freaking right.

All that crap almost ruined my favorite day of the week, comedy Wednesday. I live for Modern Family and Cougar Town. I missed last week though. My afternoon off tomorrow will be a perfect time to catch up. I will also be going like six assignments for my Econ class. Maymester is no joke, cramming a semester's worth of material into 2 weeks is a blessing and a curse. I'm going to take Oliver to the park tomorrow too!

Tonight was yoga for p90x. So far its the only work out I didn't finish. I am the most inflexible person in the world. And throw in my back problems and yoga becomes impossible, comical even. How am I supposed to relax and clear my mind when I'm having back spasms and falling on my face. yeah freakin right, Tony.
